How were you introduced to Crossfit?

I had 2 friends, both in California, who were into Crossfit. They are active people in great shape and I value their opinion. They both knew I was a decent athlete who liked to workout and thought it would be a good fit for me.

I had been looking for a change of pace with my workouts, as I had become victim to the globo gym grind and was very bored and not seeing a ton of results.

I googled Crossfit gyms in Portland and came across Crossfit Portland. I signed up for some 101 classes and got my ass handed to me on day 1. I felt like a total failure and realized this was just the challenge I needed in my life.

Due to my travel schedule at the time, it took me a month or so to get through the 101 classes and graduate to the 201. I think it was my first 201 class, when I ran into an old college friend and rowing teammate, Trevor Rowe (Mina’s husband), whom I had not seen in about 14 years.

At that point I figured it was fate and I had definitely found my place.

How Has Crossfit changed your life?

It have given me a constructive outlet to vent from and also prepare for the daily rigors of life. It has made my life more centered and balanced. It’s the yin vs yang of my, at times, too excellent social life. You have to pay to play.

Growing up and through college I was very involved with sports. I did not realize how much I missed the team sporting environment and practice scenarios of daily competition until I discovered Crossfit.

I love the camaraderie, the joking, the self exploration and just the networking in general. I have met some great great people over my tenure and that is something I genuinely appreciate and hope to continue on a daily basis.

I have always wanted to:

Attend the Masters Golf Tournament. Take a Heli snowboarding trip to Alaska. See Led Zeppelin. Party with Bill Murray and/or Charles Barkley.

One word people use to describe me:

Outgoing.

What do you do for work and fun outside of Crossfit?
For work:
I am a Sales Executive for Kaiser Permanente. I am responsible for bringing businesses and their employees into the Kaiser network for their healthcare.

For fun:
I thoroughly enjoy laughing, golfing, snowboarding, basketball, cooking, reading, traveling, and seeing live music.

Something nobody knows about you or would be surprised to know about you.

I am a huge fan of music. I love going to live shows. Pearl Jam, Black Crowes, My Morning Jacket, Widespread Panic, Black Keys, Deer Tick, Grateful Dead, etc……

I’ve seen around 250 live Widespread Panic concerts. Lots of fun. All over the country. Pretty ridiculous in retrospect, but was the best time of my life and I have met so many great people through those travels.

Song that gets me pumped for a workout:

Beastie Boys always do it for me.

Proudest Accomplishment:

Starting a family. My wife, Jatawn, my daughter, Reggie, are a blessing. It can be a heavy workload at times, but it’s the most rewarding efforts I have ever dished out.
