How were you introduced to Crossfit?
My friend Bill told me about it. He joined Crossfit Portland and I started doing some WODs in my garage in Chicago. As soon as I moved to Portland I started coming to Crossfit Portland too.

Favorite WOD/lift:
Do you ever blast through a WOD faster than you think you will? Or get sandbagged by a WOD that you think is going to be a breeze but takes forever and makes your legs hurt for 5 days afterwards? I like those WODs. The surprising ones. All time favorite lift? Shoot. I’d chose the clean and jerk if I could only do one.

I have always wanted to:
Time travel. But I don’t think much about visiting the future. I’d rather go back to various points in the past and then return to present day.

1 word people use to describe me:
Tall? Maybe tall. Or obsessive.

Outside of the gym I like to:
Cook. Peregrinate on my bicycles and motorcycle. Read. Be a computer nerd.

Something nobody knows about me or would be surprised to know about me:
I played the handbells when I was a child.

Favorite physical activity outside of Crossfit:
Cuddling with my dog. He’s awfully cute.

Favorite place to eat in Portland:
Probably my kitchen. I have a ritual of going to Zupan’s after working out and buying fresh meat and vegetables. Yum! I’ve recently had fantastic meals at Ping and Toro Bravo too.

Song that gets me pumped up for a workout:
One time I was so pumped up listening to a totally ridiculous black metal band during a bike race that I couldn’t control my speed and I crashed.

  1. Aaron,

Hello, I miss to work out with you sometime when I switched to CrossFit Fuel & Body in Beaverton. You’re still my friend. You’re awesome & inspire. You’re wonderful trainer with cleans.

  2. If ever there was ever a natural born teacher it is Aaron. He is one of the most thoughtful, kind hearted people I know. We love having you at our gym and we love calling you friend.

  3. Aaron- you were gone for awhile, but it’s great to have you back!

    Today was a great WOD:
    Round 1- 6 rounds + 10 box jumps
    Round 2- 5 rounds + 13
    Round 3- 5 rounds + 10 wall balls

Are there any plans to start doing muscle up progressions? Doing a MU is on my goal list for the immediate future…

  4. Cory, yes, there will be a muscle up progression! It’s the natural next steps after the pull up progression

  5. Aaron,

You have a cool life. You are the only person I have ever met with a masters in library science. You are an entrepreneur that is organized enough to take a month long bike trip in Alaska…..It is good to know you and I hope you do not mind that I use you as an example of the kind of person who is moving to Portland. Good for Portland.

  6. I’m on Who’s Who. Awesome!

Thanks for the kind words, all. CFPDX is an important part of my life and I value the great community that we have. Let’s keep it up.

  7. Pretty sure Aaron is the ONLY librarian I know!!!! Which leads to this question, do you know a women named Rita who’s a “head librarian in Portland”? This is to satisfy a question my 89 year old my grandmother has been asking of me since I moved here. It’s the daughter of her 99 year old friend lol

  8. I second Rochelle’s comments. You are an excellent teacher. I really appreciate all your help. I only wish I could make it to more Thursday 3:30 classes!
