How were you introduced to Crossfit?

A lovely little gal named Rochelle joined my friends and I for dinner quite some time ago. After noticing she was picky about her meal and could probably kick my butt on any day, I started drilling her with questions about Crossfit…and I was hooked!

Favorite WOD/lift:

Barbara (20 pull-ups, 30 push-ups, 40 sit-ups, and 50 squats)…primarily because it’s a full body workout that doesn’t involve lifting weights for time.

I have always wanted to:

Travel to all of the continents (I really want to visit New Zealand and Greece in particular), have a seat at the US Open Tennis Finals, make a wedding cake from scratch, take a New England fall road trip w/ a pit stop in Salem, Mass for Halloween, climb to the summit of Mt. Hood and take pictures, build my own kitchen table, learn how to sail, and open a non-profit organization.

1 word people use to describe me:



Outside of the gym I like to:

Cook a couple of new dishes a week, read personal development books (aka self-help books), plan my second vacation before the next arrives, try new restaurants around town with friends, learn from people, and watch a movie to relax.

Something nobody knows about me or would be surprised to know about me:

I was once featured in the Sandy, OR newspaper at the age of 2 ½. The article explained how I followed my grandparent’s dog off their property and went wandering deep into the forest. The tail end of the article describes how “Czar” the police dog came to my rescue and found me waist deep in a pit of mud. If I remember correctly I thought a monster or witch was pulling me down, haha.


Favorite physical activity outside of Crossfit:

Corepower yoga, hiking through the Gorge, herding my campers at summer camp, snowshoeing near Hood, and currently getting SCUBA certified (can’t wait!).

Favorite place to eat in Portland:

Voodoo Doughnuts (jk, that was for you Rochelle : ). I’d have to say anywhere that has a seasonal menu, supports local farms, and offers a mean syrah. Paley’s Place is excellent. Wildwood is on my list.

Song that gets me pumped up for a workout:

Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling, David Guetta ft. Kid Cudi – Memories, Brother Ali – Three Day Journey, and any song by Girl Talk.

Proudest accomplishment:

Overlaying the most negative times of my life with a positive.

    Hello Alex, what small world!! I talked to you about your second cousin, Kim Ell. He went to high school with me many years ago.

    Someday, I’d go to dive with you in Hoodsport(misspell), WA. I’m almost done for drysuit course.

  4. Thanks guys! I appreciate all of the comments! And yes Leah, I’ve always thought it would be fun to bake and decorate a wedding cake. In fact, I’m taking a class right now so I’ll have met that goal in a few weeks : )
