Scott is the founder and owner of CrossFit Portland. He has authored the weekly menu and shopping guides in the New York Times Best Seller – “The Paleo Solution” by Robb Wolf.
Scott Hagnas has been coaching CrossFit since 2004. In addition to leading group classes, Scott has privately coached more than 150 people, from professional athletes and performers to fitness enthusiasts.
His clients have included Portland State University athletes, Oregon Ballet Theatre performers, X-Games medalists, fighters from Portland Thai Boxing, as well as numerous competitive CrossFit Games athletes. He has coached an athlete on a 1st Place team at the CrossFit Games.
Scott holds a Level I certification in the prestigious Poliquin International Certification Program (PICP), and is the only Level II BioSignature Modulation Method practitioners in the Pacific Northwest.
Scott is also a Level 1 coach in the Certified Coaching Program (CCP) designed and overseen by Optimum Performance Training founder and CrossFit Games champion James FitzGerald. This system combines CrossFit-style training, energy system work, nutrition planning, and life-coaching. He is currently working toward Level 2 in this system.
In addition to his ongoing studies in these programs, Scott has attended more than 50 workshops, retreats and symposiums with fitness, strength, and flexibility experts such as Scott Sonnon, Charles Poliquin, and Pavel Tsatsouline, among others.
Scott has authored a column in The Performance Menu for the last six years, and his written articles for numerous magazines, including the CrossFit Journal and The Performance Menu and he has published two Paleo cookbooks.
Scott first began weightlifting, gymnastic, and mobility training in 1996, and was a Circular Strength Training coach for four years. He began doing CrossFit workouts in 2003 and opened CrossFit Portland in March 2005 at the urging of CrossFit founder Greg Glassman. It was one of the first CrossFit affiliates, and the very first located near the center of a city.
Scott has a profound passion for fitness, strength, flexibility, mobility, and nutrition, so when he’s not training or coaching he’s reading, writing or consulting on those subjects.

(pronouced “Sha-She”) Xi Xia is a co-owner at CrossFit Portland. He received his Kinesiology degree from the University of Illinois and coached college Ultimate Frisbee. This is when he discovered his passion for coaching and his bias towards evidence based training.

Madoc is obsessed with efficient movement patterns, and putting those efficiencies to work as a foundation of a healthful life. Madoc has been coaching since 2010.

Jonathan has been a strength & conditioning coach since 2009. As a coach, he is rational, curious, and compassionate. He excels at taking complex movements and concepts and breaking them down into simple, manageable parts. He is the main coach for Weightlifting and the Competition Program.
Growing up in Sequim, WA, Jonathan spent much of his time playing baseball, making music, and acting in plays. He moved to Bellingham, WA to attend Western Washington University, where he graduated with honors with a degree in psychology.
Jonathan and his fiancee Laura moved to Portland in 2014, and he is proud to be continuing his coaching career at CrossFit Portland. In his free time, he enjoys reading (non-fiction!), sampling Portland’s finest coffee and beer (not together), and spending time with Laura and their dachshund, Ernie. [email protected]
Amy is a Crossfit Level 1 Certified Trainer. She has been coaching since 2012.
By day she’s a speech pathologist. By night and some early mornings, she’s a Crossfit Coach extraordinaire! Amy loves helping members get that self-realization moment that they are faster or stronger than they thought. In her spare time she is usually found researching about nutritional studies and movement patterns. You can find her teaching JumpStart at the crack of dawn or getting her swole on in the early evenings.
Sean is Crossfit Level 1 certified. He has been coaching since 2009.
He has a BS in Psychology from WSU, and studied fitness at PCC. Outside of the gym he enjoys reading comic books, being outdoors, hiking, camping, traveling and anything involving food. He also finds Crossfit to be a most satisfying complement to frequent fantasies about surviving a zombie apocalypse.
